Rye is the oldest permanent settlement in Westchester County, New York. It began in 1660 when a small group of settlers established the land between Milton Point and the Byram River. In 1665, the settlements merged under the name of Rye after ancestors in Rye, England. In 1683, Rye was ceded unwillingly to the Province of New York by King Charles II as a gift to his brother, the Duke of York. During the Revolutionary War, Rye was neutral ground when both the British and Americans entered the city. Today the historic Rye Boat Basin is home to 425 summer slips and considered well protected from storm weather winds. The webcam is located at the north part of Milton Harbor facing Long Island Sound. Our latitude/longitude coordinates are: N40° 57’.67, W073° 41’.42.
